Muxtape Down Because Of RIAA
http://www.ghacks.net/ 2008/ 08/ 19/ muxtape-down-because-of-riaa/
The RIAA, that is the Recording Industry Association of America, has claimed another victim in its fight against any form of music exchange that users and providers do not pay for. It hit Muxtape this time, a website that was reviewed not long ago here at Ghacks. Muxtape provided a great way to upload mp3 songs to their website creating a mixtape like song collection on the website. It had some limits like a maximum song size of 10 Megabytes and only one mixtape per account but what made it great was the ability to share the mixtape with friends.

Muxtape vs. RIAA
http://spiddlement.wordpress.com/2008/08/20/muxtape-vs-riaa/08.20.08 Muxtape was such a cool idea. Make your own digital mixtape and share it with your friends. So of course, the RIAA had to step in and ruin it. Rolling Stone reports that Muxtape is probably on solid legal ground, protected under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998, but that legal expenses may be a problem: “‘I think they have a strong legal defense,’ Von Lohmann told RollingStone.com. ‘The problem is if they might not have that money to go to court and take on the RIAA.’ Von Lohmann said legal fees could cost around $2-3 million, an investment the Websites would likely rather spend on tech engineers.” Link (to “How Screwed Is Muxtape?” via Rolling Stone) Link (to “Muxtape Down Because of RIAA” via Ghacks) Possibly related posts: (automatically generated)I Wish I Made This Post EarlierMuxtaping is killing music - I don’t think soWoe is me, Muxtape goes downMuxtape Ignored Copyright Law, Says RIAA Permalink
